Popular Lanarkshire takeaway closes doors after more than 30 years trading

A popular Lanarkshire takeaway has closed its doors suddenly.

The Canton had been part of the Rutherglen and Cambuslang area for over 30 years.

However the Chinese outlet announced on Facebook earlier this week that they would closing with immediate effect.

A sign posted on their premises states that they will be 're-opening soon' after refurbishment but no mention was made in their online posting of the Main Street eatery being opened again.

It is unclear whether new owners will take over the premises.

The post stated: "To all our wonderful customers who support us all these years, it’s a hard decision to make and a short notice for you all that we are no longer running canton anymore.

"It has been a pleasure serving you all. Hope one day we will meet again. Please take care."

On social media a number of locals expressed their disappointment at the news.

One wrote: "Been eating here for 30 years - best Chinese out there. You will be missed."

Another local simply added: "absolutely gutted best Chinese ever."

A third disappointed local said: "Sorry to hear this, you will be missed".
