Popular Bearsden food and drink shop and 'local hub' put up for sale by owners

A popular Bearsden food and drink shop, described as a 'local hub' for the community has been put on the market.

No 40. By The Alba Collection, on New Kirk Road, has developed a loyal customer following, selling the likes of fresh bread and coffee, beers, wines and gifts.

In an emotional Instagram post, the owners say they decided to sell up for family reasons, while mentioning they had had a 'brilliant experience' running the much-loved store.

They commented: "After a pretty incredible journey and much deliberation, we've decided to put No. 40 up for sale.

"This was not our original intention for No. 40 but for family reasons (very happy family reasons at that!), we've collectively decided the time is right.

"We can't express in words the appreciation we have from the incredible support received from you all from the get go, both locally and further afield. It has been a brilliant experience.

"The foundation of the shop was always to promote great produce from Glasgow and across Scotland, and the extent to which you've rallied behind this has been truly overwhelming.

"We have been fortunate to make many great friends along the way, as well as discover an array of amazing local producers. This has enabled No. 40 to become the local hub that it is today, which is something we take immense pride in given the hard work required to reach this stage."

Local residents reacted with sadness to the news, but wished the owners all the best for future.

One person commented: "Oh no! Love what you guys have brought to Bearsden! I hope someone lovely takes over and keeps the same great produce!"

Another customer added: "No!!! You really are such a great addition to the cross, really hope someone carries on with the same smiley service and great local produce like you did. You’ll be missed".
