Popular 350-year-old Dublin pub The Lord Mayors set to close for good

A 350-year-old North Dublin pub is set to close its doors for good.

The owners of the Lord Mayors pub on Main Street in Swords, north Dublin, have said they are being forced to close the business due to growing debt.

There are 27 staff currently employed at the premises which also includes an off-licence and music venue.

On Wednesday, staff were given a letter from owner Robert Savage that said the business is "no longer sustainable", The Herald reports.

It warned that the company "simply does not have enough cash reserves" to make statutory redundancy payments.

The iconic thatched roof pub is known by locals from across North Dublin and is the oldest structure in the village having opened as a watering hole in 1668, Dublin Live reports.

It was famed over the years for its disco bar which was known as a "weekly roulette" to get into even if you had ID.

With the imminent closure, local businesses have also reached out to staff in an effort to find them new employment.

A post on social media said that Indie Spice, Gourmet Food Parlor and The Grand Hotel are all looking for Lord Mayors' staff to get in touch.

The local Swords Businesses group said: "With the imminent closure of the Lord Mayors pub in Swords, Indie Spice, Gourmet Food Parlour and The Grand Hotel are asking for Lord Mayors staff to contact them for possible employment opportunities.

"Thank you so much for looking out for your neighbouring businesses and their staff."
