Pontins Brean Sands: "I tried the Sun's £9.50 holiday and had a lot of fun despite the smell"

Pontins Brean Sands has received a lot of criticism over the years, from families leaving after just five minutes to horror stories of dirty bathrooms.

But one Vlogger, Ben Morris, was pleasantly surprised when he visited the resort with his friend as part of the Sun's £9,50 deal in 2021. In the YouTube video, Mr Morris said: "For years now The Sun have been advertising £9.50 holidays all over the UK. For the cost of ten papers and a few pounds a night they claim you'll have the holiday to remember that won't break the bank."

When the pair arrived at their small room, they found the light in the bathroom did not work. The bathroom door also grazed the nearby toilet seat and had to be forced shut, reports Somerset Live.

Mr Morris said: "It smells a bit funny - I don't know how to describe the smell. It's that smell like someone has died in here recently."

Mr Morris didn't bring bed linen and was under the impression he could buy some at the on-site shop - but it was closed. There was also a fish and chip restaurant on-site that he was eager to try - but that was also closed.

The pair then took a trip to the Queen Vic pub at Pontins, which was open - but wasn't serving drinks and the restaurant was closed. The site also has a Go-Kart track and a crazy golf course - but both attractions were closed.

Mr Morris was forced to sleep in his clothes after not being able to find bed linen. The pair also had to buy £5 towels at Pontins as they were not provided with the room, although Mr Morris conceded that it was "their fault for not bringing their own towels".

The next day, the friends decided to play Bingo at Pontins, which cost "more than the whole stay" at £20. They were chuffed that they narrowly missed out on the top prize - a Pontins holiday.

Summing up, he said the holiday was 'good value for money' considering the low cost. He said: "I've had a fun time.

"I think you get your money's worth as you are only paying £9.50ish. There is a service fee and you have to pay for food, bed linen and towels."
