The government should continue efforts to promote equality and inclusion, as society was now more accepting of gender diversity, a survey by Suan Dusit Poll finds.
The poll, conducted among 1,238 respondents nationwide between June 2 and 5, found 67.6% were aware that June is Pride Month, while 32.4% said they were not.
About 79.3% of respondents said society was accepting of LGBTQ+ people, while 85.3% described the level of acceptance in their own communities as high.
Some 65.3% said the government should continue promoting awareness and understanding of gender diversity.
Pornphan Buathong, chair of Suan Dusit Poll, said the findings reflected growing social acceptance of gender diversity and increasing support for equal rights and opportunities.
She said expectations for the government to improve public understanding and expanding legal protections indicated equality was moving beyond social acceptance toward practical implementation.
Jiranuch Sopha, assistant dean of School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Suan Dusit University, said the findings showed Thailand had entered a stage where support for equality is taking a more substantive form.
However, she said prejudice against gender diversity remained a challenge, pointing to public calls for the government to step up efforts to promote understanding and inclusion.
Stronger legal protections and anti-discrimination measures could help drive a "rainbow economy", generating value for the tourism, healthcare and creative sectors.
