New elections were underway on Sunday at six polling stations in five provinces, including Bangkok, from 8am to 5pm, as ordered by the Election Commission.
They are the 32nd polling station of Bang Kapi district’s Constituency 13 in Bangkok; the 12th polling station of Khao Kho district’s Constituency 1 in Phetchabun; the sixth polling station of Phrom Phiram district’s Constituency 2 in Phitsanulok; the sixth polling station of Maha Chana Chai district Constituency 2 in Yasothon; and the 3rd and 6th polling stations of Ko Kha district’s Constituency 4 in Lampang.
In Phitsanulok, the poll rerun is held at the multi-purpose meeting hall of Moo 6 village in tambon Matum in Phrom Phiram district with 366 eligible voters.
In the March 24 election, 269 of the 366 eligible voters turned up to vote. In the vote count, however, there were only 268 ballot papers in the ballot box -- one ballot short -- causing the EC to order the poll rerun.
On Sunday morning, voters began to assemble at the polling station before 8am.
Tawatchai Thoedpaothai, an EC member, travelled to the polling station for an inspection before the vote began. He was accompanied by Phitsanulok governor Pipat Ekpapan and members of the provincial election committee.
In Bangkok, Lertviroj Kowattana, an EC member, went to the 32nd polling station at Lamsalee Ratbamrung School in Bang Kapi's Hua Mak district on Sunday morning for an inspection. This polling station is for 802 eligible voters to cast their votes.
In the March 24 election, 555 people turned up to vote at this polling station, but one ballot paper went missing in the vote count, leading to Sunday's poll rerun.
Mr Lertviroj said he expected the voting result at this polling station to be released on Sundy evening but did not think the outcome would have much effect on the March 24 poll result.
Meanwhile, in Yasothorn province, Ittiporn Boonprakong, the EC chairman, went on an inspection trip to the sixth polling station at Moo 6 village in tambon Hua Muang of Maha Chana Chai district.
