Police warning as fake £50 notes circulating in Northern Ireland

Police have issued a warning following reports of fake notes circulating across Northern Ireland.

PSNI said they are aware of counterfeit £50 Clydesdale bank notes being used across the country.

In a Facebook post, a spokesperson added: "It is worth reminding everyone and in particular retailers and traders to be alert to counterfeit currency.

"The counterfeit notes, as shown in the attached photo can appear genuine and show some watermarks when looked at under UV lights, although the standard on each note varies.

"The notes also feel slightly thicker than genuine ones but this can be difficult to detect.

"Please be alert to this and if you believe any counterfeit currency has been passed, or an attempt has been made to pass it, make a report on 101."
