Jan. 28--Police are warning delivery drivers and residents in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side of an increase in robberies over the past month.
Two delivery drivers were robbed and five other robberies happened between Jan. 6 and Monday, according to an alert from the Chicago Police Department.
The delivery drivers were robbed in the 400 block of South Laramie Avenue at 11:53 p.m. Jan. 11 and in the 5000 block of West Monroe Street at 12 p.m. Jan. 16, according to the alert.
In both cases, one or two unknown male attackers approached delivery drivers, displayed a handgun and demanded the victims' property and food, the alert said.
The suspects are one or two black men ages 23 to 27. They are between 5-foot-8 and 6-foot-1. They weigh 135 to 175 pounds. The attacker in bother robberies was armed with a black or chrome handgun, the alert said.
Five other robberies took place between Jan. 6 and Monday, the alert said.
In those incidents, one to three unknown male attackers came out of a vehicle and approached victims. The attackers then brandished a handgun and demanded the victims' property.
The latest robbery happened in the 100 block of North Lavergne Avenue at 12:50 p.m. on Jan. 25, the alert said.
Others took place:
--In the 100 block of South Cicero Avenue at 1:55 p.m. on Jan. 11.
--In the 1000 block of South Mason Avenue at 11:55 a.m. Jan. 9.
--In the 600 block of South Central Avenue at 7:38 p.m. Jan. 7.
--In the 5300 block of West Quincy Street at 4:45 p.m. Jan. 6.
The suspects in those robberies are one to three black men ages 20 to 30. They are between 5-foot-8 and 6-foot-3 and weigh 170 to 200 pounds. They were armed with a black handgun, the alert said.
The vehicle the suspects used is described as either a black or green Pontiac or a black four-door-vehicle, according to the alert.
