Police swooped on a quiet residential street in Stockport following reports shots were fired at a man.
No one was injured following the shooting on Heathland Terrace, Cale Green.
Officers were called to the scene just before 8pm on Saturday.
They found evidence that a 'number of shots had been fired in the street'.
No arrests have been made, a spokeswoman for GMP said.
Residents living nearby posted about the incident on social media.
One woman tweeted: "Helicopter up, four firearms cars outside and they've cordoned off the whole side of my house!"
In a full statement, police said: "Shortly before 8pm on Saturday 30 January 2021, police were called to reports that shots had been fired towards a man on Heathland Terrace, Cale Green.
"Specialist officers attended and found evidence that a number of shots had been fired in the street.
"Thankfully no-one was injured.
"No arrests have been currently been made and enquiries are ongoing."
