Police stopped suspicious Wishaw man and found a knife and heroin

Police searching a drugs suspect in Gowkthrapple found he was carrying a knife.

Connor Hamilton also had a small quantity of heroin on him.

Hamilton, 22, of Laurel Drive, Craigneuk, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court last week.

He admitted unlawful possession of a blade and the Class A drug in Birkshaw Brae on March 25.

Scott King, prosecuting, said police officers were on patrol in the afternoon when they saw Hamilton in a car park near flats.

Mr King told the court: “On seeing the police, the accused placed his hands in his tracksuit bottoms, put his head down and walked away quickly.

“The officers were suspicious and detained him for a drugs search.

“He was asked if he had anything that could harm the officers and produced a lockback knife. He also had a £10 bag of heroin in a pocket of his fleece jacket.”

Sheriff Shiona Waldron called for a criminal justice social work report and an electronic tagging assessment. Hamilton, who will also be assessed for a possible drug treatment and testing order, must return to court for sentence on October 25.
