Police shut off road after two crashes

A pedestrian has been hit by a vehicle in a crash this evening in the centre of Leigh.

Police were called to Spinning Jenny Way, where two vehicle collisions had taken place along the same stretch of road.

One of the crashes was reported to have included a pedestrian, police said.

The road was closed from Derby Street up to the traffic lights at the junction.

A cordon was put in place from around 7.10pm on November 9.

One side of the road is now moving again.

Drivers were encouraged to avoid the area due to the closure.

Two police cars were still in attendance this evening as well as an RAC recovery van.

Greater Manchester Police Leigh Division said on Twitter: "Please avoid the junction at Spinning Jenny Way, Leigh.

"There have been two traffic collisions including one involving a pedestrian.

"The road is closed from Derby St to traffic lights at the junction. Avoid for now."

It is believed to have reopened by 9.45pm.

Greater Manchester Police and the North West Ambulance Service have been contacted for further details.
