Police share snap as witness appeal - and everyone says the same thing

A police force has been mocked online after sharing a picture of a man as part of a witness appeal - as everyone is saying they reckon they know who he is.

Dorset Police shared an image of the man on Tuesday, January 11, explaining they would like to identify him in regard to an alleged car theft in Poole on Monday, December 27.

At first glance, the man looks very familiar, as he wears a thick dark coat, a flat cap, and dark trousers alongside a formal shirt.

Soon the post was inundated with comments from people who all said the same thing, that the man looked like a Peaky Blinder - and could even be Thomas Shelby.

Taking to Facebook, Dorset Police said: "CCTV appeal following theft of vehicle in Poole.

"Officers investigating the theft of a motor vehicle in Poole are issuing CCTV images of a man they would like to identify.

"The vehicle was stolen from Poole town centre in the early hours of Monday, December 27, 2021, and was subsequently found abandoned, having sustained damage, in the Turlin Moor area."

Police Constable Steve Eastwood, of Poole police, said: “We are carrying out enquiries into this matter and I am releasing images of a man we are keen to identify as part of our investigation.

"I would urge anyone with information as to his identity to please contact us."

The post has now attracted hundreds of comments from 'helpful' social media users who suggested who the man might be.

"Defo Tommy Shelby," commented Fiona Lawrence.

And Josh Garth added: "I thought he was more into horses."

Then Ollie Duffy wrote: "Tommy Shelby from wish.com."

While John William Humby commented: "I think this is meant to be on Birmingham police’s Facebook page?"

"That's Thomas Shelby, he's the MP for Birmingham," added James Brinton.

Alongside the comments, many pictures from the Peaky Blinders were shared on the post.
