Police sergeant charged with grooming offences

A police sergeant has been charged with grooming offences, including allegedly trying to incite a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity.

Stephen Shaw, 46, is also said to have attempted to engage in sexual communication with a child earlier this month.

The West Midlands Police officer was arrested at his home address on Thursday and is being kept in police custody.

He will appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Friday, the force said in a statement.

A mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct by West Midlands Police.
