Police seize £50K of suspected cocaine in Newcastle

Police have seized £50K of suspected cocaine after a property search in Co Down yesterday.

They say at around 7.05pm on Wednesday evening, officers from the South Area District Support Team located and stopped a man at the South Promenade area of Newcastle.

He was arrested on suspicion of various drugs offences.

Inspector Darren Hardy said: "A follow-up search was carried out at a property in the South Promenade area, and a quantity of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of £50,000 was recovered.

"A sum of money and other drug paraphernalia were seized by police at the scene. The male was released on police bail pending further enquiries.

"We continue to target criminals who seek to gain from the illegal drugs trade and from the misfortune of others. Any information we receive is acted upon and I would encourage anyone with information to report it to police to assist us in our efforts.

"Police can be contacted on 101 or alternatively information can be given anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
