Police searching for human remains in B&M Bargains after it was gutted by fire

Police are reportedly searching for human remains inside a B&M Bargains store that was gutted by a devastating fire over the weekend.

Emergency services rushed to a retail park in Perth, Scotland, shortly after 2am last Sunday.

Around 50 firefighters battled the blaze until the early hours of the morning which saw the roof of the B&M store collapse and damaged an adjacent building.

But authorities have confirmed they believe that a body could be inside the badly damaged premises.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland confirmed that it was "pursuing the incident as a line of enquiry", a local newspaper reported .

Officers are treating the incident as suspicious, but no arrests have yet been made.

Detective Inspector Jennifer Reid said Police Scotland was working to to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fire.

She said: “I would urge anyone who has information to contact us and I would like to thank the businesses at St Catherine’s for their support.”

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “More than 50 firefighters tackled a fire within a large commercial unit in St Catherine’s Retail Park, Perth.

"We were alerted at 2.13am on Saturday after reports of an alarm activation and we mobilised a number of resources to the scene.

“On arrival firefighters found a large, well-developed fire. Ten fire engines and three aerial appliances were on the scene.”

A large cordon as place around the scene of the fire. Around 30 pets were also removed from the neighbouring Pets at Home store but thankfully none of the animals were injured.

An onlooker told the Evening Telegraph: “I passed through the area three or four times yesterday and the police were there in good numbers obviously looking for something.

“They seemed to have specialist search equipment with them.

“I asked them what was going on but they said they were not at liberty to tell me.”

A police spokesman added: “This is part of an ongoing investigation.”
