Police release photo of person of interest in Charlie Kirk shooting death

Investigators are following "multiple leads" in the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, but no suspect is in custody, per the Utah Department of Public Safety.

Driving the news: The DPS said via email Thursday afternoon that they had received more than 200 tips from members of the public since Kirk was shot while speaking Wednesday at Utah Valley University in the city of Orem.

  • The FBI on Thursday announced on X a $100,000 reward "for information leading to the identification and arrest of the individual(s) responsible for the murder of Charlie Kirk."

Zoom in: Investigators have collected "a footwear impression, a palm print, and forearm imprints for analysis," per the DPS' emailed statement.

  • They didn't say where they found that forensic evidence or why it's believed to be linked to the shooting.

Meanwhile, FBI agents were analyzing a bolt-action rifle found in a wooded area near the campus, where investigators say a shooter fled Wednesday after Kirk's Turning Point USA event ended in gunfire.

  • "There are reportedly photos of a weapon and various details about that firearm and ammunition, including inscriptions and symbols," per DPS.
  • "At this time, we are not able to provide further details on the content of those inscriptions," DPS officials wrote. "Additionally, we are not able to confirm individual photos' authenticity, as those photos were not released by law enforcement. We are not confirming further details at this time."

Catch up quick: State police and FBI agents announced earlier Thursday that they'd obtained video footage — described by a source familiar with the investigation as "high quality" — of a person they were seeking.

The photos show a person wearing sunglasses, a dark baseball cap, a dark long-sleeved shirt, dark pants and sneakers with white laces.

  • Investigators described the person as "college-aged."

Tips: Anyone with information may call 1-800-CALL-FBI or leave a message online.

Zoom out: Officials said earlier Thursday they have tracked the person's movements before and after the shooting.

  • Authorities said the person passed through stairwells and to the roof where the shooting took place. The person then jumped off the building's roof and moved away from campus, they said.
