Police release images of man wanted for hammer attacks on CTA property

Police released images Wednesday of a man wanted in connection with a series of recent attacks on CTA property.

The man allegedly uses a hammer in these attacks, the latest of which happened about 2:10 a.m. Wednesday at the Red Line stop in the 900 block of West Addison Street, Chicago police said.

A 41-year-old man was on a train when the suspect started a conversation with him as he walked by, police said. Then, the suspect punched the man in the head and hit him with a hammer.

The man pushed the panic alarm on the train and the attacker fled, police said. The man was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center for treatment.

Three other attacks happened:

  • Around midnight Aug. 13 on the platform of the Red Line stop in the 100 block of South State Street.
  • At 11:10 a.m. Aug. 6 on the platform of the Green Line stop in the 1600 block of West Lake Street.
  • At 3:27 p.m. July 21 on a bus in the 3500 block of West Addison Street.
