Man blinded after he smashes head on floor in Tesco attack as police launch appeal

Police have released CCTV of a smirking man after a victim was left blinded in an attack outside a Tesco Express.

A man was tackled to the floor and suffered devastating injuries after hitting his head on concrete outside the shop in Hall Street, Birmingham.

West Midlands Police have released a CCTV image of the man they want to speak to in relation to the attack on Saturday, May 29.

The victim - a 31-year-old man - was rushed to hospital.

At first, he was in a critical condition and has lost the sight in one eye.

Police are appealing for help to find a man who was seen on CCTV before the incident wearing a grey Nike T-shirt and cap.

The force said: "We are trying to identify him, after a man was seriously assaulted outside a Tesco Express on Hall Street, Birmingham on May 29.

"The 31-year-old man lost his sight in one eye following the injuries sustained in this attack, and we need your help to trace the person responsible."

Anyone who recognises the man, or has information, should contact police via live chat on the force website or by calling 101, quoting crime reference 20/499849/21.
