Police punched: one suffers fractured eye socket

TWO police officers have been injured, including one with a suspected fractured eye socket, during the arrest of a man in Gosford overnight.

About 2.20am Wednesday police were called to John Whiteway Drive after reports an intoxicated man was acting aggressively towards members of the public.

Brisbane Water police attended and approached the 47-year-old man and attempted to arrest him; however, he became violent and allegedly punched the officers to the face and head.

One officer suffered a suspected fractured eye socket, and the other suffered an injury to his shoulder.

The man was placed under arrest and was taken to Gosford Hospital for assessment. He is likely to be charged upon his release.

Both officers have been taken to hospital for further treatment. Inquiries continue.
