Police probe after woman's body recovered from River Foyle

A body of a young woman was been recovered from the River Foyle last night.

Police said a postmortem and identification procedures will be carried out in due course.

The woman's body was recovered at around 1.50am on February 25th.

Foyle Search and Rescue were alerted to reports a person had entered the water shortly after 11pm.

It is understood that members of the Fire Service, Irish Coastguard Helicopter 118, Coastguard, and the PSNI were also involved in the multi agency operation.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a female, aged in her 20s, whose body was recovered from the River Foyle in Derry/Londonderry last night, Monday 24 February.

“A post mortem examination will take place in due course to determine the cause of death.”
