Police officer's body found at farm on Nottinghamshire border

The body of a police constable was discovered on a farm on the Nottinghamshire Derbyshire border, an inquest has heard.

An inquest into 46-year-old David Anthony Burden was opened on Wednesday, November 17, in a short hearing at Chesterfield Coroner's Court.

The hearing was told PC Burden was identified by his partner Amanda Burden after being found near Shirebrook, Derbyshire Live reports.

Area Coroner for Derby and Derbyshire, Mr Peter Nieto, told the inquest a limited postmortem had been carried out on Mr Burden by Dr Terrance Jones, who gave the preliminary cause of death as ligature suspension.

However, Mr Nieto did add a number of further tests needed to be carried out on Mr Burden before a full postmortem report could be filed.

The short, opening hearing, was told a number of other reports needed to be received before a full inquest could take place.

These included toxicology reports, a file from Derbyshire police and checks with Mr Burden's GP.

Adjourning the hearing, Mr Nieto didn't give a date as to when the inquest could resume but he did set a review date of Thursday, February 10, 2022.

PC Burden was born on July 23, 1975, in Portsmouth.
