Police officer attacked while trying to stop 'drink driver' from swallowing drugs

A man suspected of driving over the legal alcohol limit was arrested for assaulting a police officer as they tried to stop him swallowing drugs.

Matrix Officers patrolling Knowsley on Saturday, November 28 stopped a man who was found to be driving while “ unfit through drink ”.

As officers searched the man, a number of wraps of cocaine were reportedly found.

During the search, he is said to have allegedly assaulted one of the officers who tried to stop him from swallowing drugs.

He was further arrested for assaulting an emergency worker, obstructing police and possession of cocaine.

A spokesperson for Knowsley Police said: “Matrix Officers patrolling Knowsley have arrested a male for a number of offences on 28 November.

“The male was sighted driving a car on Lickers Lane, Whiston, and was caused to stop by officers.

“The male was arrested for driving a motor vehicle whilst unfit through drink.

“A search of the male resulted in a number of wraps of cocaine being located.

“During the incident, a police officer was assaulted by the male as the officer tried to prevent him from swallowing drugs.

“The male was further arrested for Assaulting an Emergency Worker, Obstruct Police and Possession of a Controlled Drug Class A, Cocaine.”
