Police name Armagh murder victim as Stephen Barriskill after body found in house

The man 'murdered' at a residential property in Co Armagh has been named as Stephen Barriskill.

His body was found at a house in the Whitesides Hill area of Portadown just after 12 noon on Wednesday.

The victim had lived in the area for some time and was well-known in the community, Belfast Live report.

It is understood that Mr Barriskill had been shot dead in his home on Tuesday night but police only learned of the incident after a man handed himself in on Wednesday.

He has since been arrested on suspicion of murder.

The PSNI said the investigation is ongoing and have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

Detective Chief Inspector McGuinness said: “Just after 12.07pm on Wednesday afternoon (27 October), police responding to the report of an incident, located the body of Mr Barriskill at a residential property in the Whitesides Hill area of Portadown.

“A man arrested on suspicion of murder on Wednesday remains in custody.

“While our investigation is ongoing, I would again appeal to anyone who was in the Whitesides Hill area from 8pm on Tuesday 26 Oct, and who witnessed anything suspicious to contact Detectives on 101 quoting reference 773 of 27/10/21."

Independent councillor Darryn Causby said the community in the "quiet and rural area" were "shocked and saddened" by the incident.

Upper Bann DUP MP Carla Lockhart said: "Today a family is grieving and they are very much in our thoughts and prayers. I would ask everyone to allow time and space for the investigations to be completed and for their family to come to terms with what has happened."

It is the fourth murder locally in the past fortnight and the second in Portadown in recent weeks.
