Police mock 'caterpillar burglar' who crawled through house on stomach

Police in Australia have mocked a suspect captured on CCTV crawling around a home on his belly following a burglary.

Western Australia Police from the Midland station, east of Perth, shared the footage on social media on Wednesday in a bid to identify the hooded alleged burglar.

Police tweeted: "Midland Police are investigating a burglary incident in Midland overnight.

"Can you help identify the male suspect now known as #Caterpillar."

The clip shows a man crawling on his front through the house on Elgee Road while holding an item.

At one point he inadvertantly looks directly into one of the CCTV cameras.

People on social media were quick to mock the suspect, branding him the "hungry caterpillar".

One wrote: "Full on stares at the camera like good one bud."

Another wrote: "All I could imagine was the mission impossible music in the background."

While others shared a variety of caterpillar memes.

Police said anyone who may be able to identify the man should contact Midlands Police or crimestoppers.
