A murder investigation is under way after a young man was stabbed to death in a “senseless” attack.
The victim, in his 20s, collapsed on Hither Green Lane, Lewisham, south east London, at around 3.20pm on Tuesday.
London Ambulance Service called the Metropolitan Police to a serious knife assault.
Paramedics treated him at the scene before taking the male to hospital where he sadly died.
His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers, the force said.
Formal identification and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
Superintendent Nick Jowett, of the Met’s Royal Borough of Greenwich policing team said: “Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this distressing time.
“Although we are in the very early stages of the investigation, I can assure you that detectives are working at pace to identify those responsible for this senseless attack.
“In the meantime, local residents can expect to see an increased police presence across the area. Please speak to them if you have any concerns.”
At this early stage, there have been no arrests.
Hither Green Lane and Benin Street are closed while a crime scene remains in place.
LAS said: “We were called at 3.25pm today (October 28) to reports of a stabbing at the junction of Benin Street and Hither Green Lane, Hither Green.
“We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, paramedics in fast response cars and an incident response officer.
“Our first paramedic arrived on scene in five minutes.
“We treated a patient for a stab wound and took them to hospital as a priority.”
