Police launch investigation after van is damaged and man attacked in Rochdale

Police have launched an investigation after a man was attacked in the street in Rochdale.

Officers were called to Roch Valley Way shortly before 8.40pm on Sunday (20 September) to reports that a car had been damaged and a man had been assaulted.

A 54-year-old man sustained injuries in the attack, but was not taken to hospital.

Pictures from the scene show a white van parked on the driveway of a property. Its front windscreen has been smashed.

A police cordon was erected around the address while detectives and forensics carried out their investigations.

Police have since arrested a 49-year-old man in the South Yorkshire area on suspicion of attempted Section 18 assault.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "Shortly before 8.40pm on Sunday 20 September 2020, police were called to reports that a car had been damaged and a man had been assaulted on Roch Valley Way, Rochdale.

"A 54-year-old man was treated at the scene for injuries but didn’t require hospital treatment.

"Following enquiries, a 49-year-old man was arrested in the South Yorkshire area on suspicion of attempted Section 18 assault in connection with this incident.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
