Police Launch Investigation After Townsville Teen Dies In E-Scooter Crash

A teenager has died after an electric scooter crash in Townsville early this morning.

The 18-year-old, who was from Mount Louisa, was riding an e-scooter on Flinders Highway in Roseneath at around 1am when the incident happened.

According to Queensland Police, the scooter crashed and the teenager suffered serious injuries as a result. Emergency services responded quickly and he was taken to Townsville University Hospital in a critical condition, but sadly, he died a short time later.

Police have confirmed that the Forensic Crash Unit is now investigating the circumstances of the crash. At this stage, no other vehicles are believed to have been involved.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information that could help their investigation to come forward and contact police.

This tragic incident adds to growing concerns about e-scooter safety in Queensland, especially as these vehicles become more popular among young people. Just last month, another teenager was left fighting for his life after a separate e-scooter crash on the Sunshine Coast.

If you or anyone you know has information about the crash on Flinders Highway, police urge you to get in touch via Crime Stoppers. Call 1800 333 000 or report online at www.crimestoppersqld.com.au.
