Police said the death of a man found following a car fire is not believed to be suspicious.

Cheshire Police confirmed to the ECHO the death of a man found dead following a car fire in a woodland car park is not believed to be suspicious. Cheshire Police and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service launched a joint investigation after a body of a man was found at around 12.30am on Friday, June 3 in Stanney Woods car park in Ellesmere Port.

Emergency services rushed to the car park on Strawberry Way West after reports of a fire. Fire crews extinguished the blaze but found the body of a man inside the car.

The death was being treated as "unexplained" while enquiries into the cause of the fire were ongoing. Cheshire Police Detective Inspector Nigel Parr said on June 6: “At this stage this appears to be an isolated incident and we are doing everything we can to establish the exact circumstances of what has happened."

But now detectives said while enquiries into the cause of the fire remain ongoing they believe there is no third-party involvement. Formal identification of the body has not yet taken place but it is believed to be a 44-year-old local man.

The man's next of kin are aware and they are being supported by specialist officers. A case file will now be prepared for the coroner.
