Police issue statement after man found dead on railway tracks at Cross Gates station in Leeds

A man has died on the railway line at Cross Gates Station in Leeds.

Emergency services were called to reports of a casualty on the line at the station, shortly before midday yesterday.

Paramedics attended but the man, whose death is not being treated as suspicious, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Trains between Leeds and York were cancelled or delayed until all lines were reopened at around 2.30pm.

There was a large police presence stationed on Leeds Ring Road.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "British Transport Police were called to Cross Gates railway station at 11.50am on Monday 3 May following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
