Police 'increasingly concerned' after walker from Greater Manchester goes missing in Snowdonia

Update - Steven Geoffrey Brown has been found. In an update on Sunday night, North Wales Police said he had been found by mountain rescue teams and is being assessed by doctors.

A major search is underway for an experienced walker from Altrincham who has gone missing in Snowdonia.

North Wales Police say they are growing 'increasingly concerned' for the safety of Steven Geoffrey Brown who was last seen at approximately 1pm on Saturday (October 15). The 50-year-old, who police say is an experienced walker and would have gone out well equipped for the poor weather conditions, has been reported missing in the Rhinog mountain range, reports North Wales Live.

A post on North Wales Police's Facebook page describes him as being around 6ft 1in tall and of medium build. He was wearing a royal blue Mountain Equipment waterproof jacket along with black waterproof trousers and carrying a rucksack that has a lime green cover.

T/Superintendent Owain Llewellyn said: “We are concerned for Geoff’s welfare and I am appealing for information from anyone who may have seen him on Saturday afternoon. It is likely that he was very near to the summit of Rhinog Fawr at approximately 3pm yesterday.

"Whilst the weather conditions were poor Geoff is an experienced walker and is believed to have been well equipped for the conditions."

He added: "A large search operation has been underway throughout last night and today and I am grateful to the search and rescue volunteers and partner agencies who have supported it, further searches are planned for this evening and tomorrow.”

North Wales Police are asking anyone with any information about Steven to contact them. You can do this by ringing 101 or online but make sure you quote reference number B156817.
