Police hunt for man who spat at bus driver when asked to wear a facemask

Police are hunting for a man who spat at a bus driver in Bristol after he was advised he'd have to wear a facemask.

Detectives have released a CCTV image of a man they want to identify, to talk to him about an incident that happened on a bus in Bradley Stoke, South Gloucestershire, last month.

Police said they are treating the incident, which happened on Bradley Stoke Way, as an assault.

The man spat at the driver of a bus at around 1pm on Saturday, June 19, the day after England and Scotland drew 0-0 at the Euros.

On this day, facemasks were still compulsory on public transport, with passengers required to wear one unless they could show they were medically exempt.

Bristol Live understands that the man who spat at the driver did so after being 'reminded of the need to wear a face mask'.

"The offender is described as white, approximately 5ft 8ins tall, in his early 30s and of a slim to medium build," said a spokesperson for Avon and Somerset police.

"He had light, short brown hair and a distinctive scar on his right cheek.

"If you recognise the man in the image, please call 101 and provide the call handler with the reference 5221137010," he added.
