Police hunt alleged Sydney pizza shop bandit

The Domino's Pizza shop where a server was shot on Sunday morning.

New South Wales Police believe a string of armed robberies in Sydney's west could be linked and are searching for a man they say has been storming pizzerias with a gun.

In the latest attack, a 21-year-old working at Domino's Pizza in Wentworthville sustained serious injuries after being shot about 1:30am on Sunday.

The worker was shot in his chest and hand but managed to walk with a colleague to a nearby police station.

He was taken to Westmead Hospital and was due to have surgery on Monday to take bullet fragments out of his hand, although the "other cartridge remains in his chest" Detective Acting Superintendent Gary Hutchen said.

Police believed the same man had committed all of the armed robberies.

"Investigators have compared footage across all five offences and we believe the same person is responsible for each of those offences," Acting Superintendent Hutchen said.

All the incidents have occurred in the inner-west or western suburbs:

Date of incident Location
November 20, 2017 Canley Vale
December 9, 2017 Fairfield East
December 14, 2017 Strathfield
December 17, 2017 North Strathfield
January 7, 2018 Wentworthvillle

Police believe a man with a gun entered the businesses on each occasion before threatening staff and leaving with cash.

The first incident happened on November 20 at a restaurant, while the subsequent hold-ups were at pizzerias.

NSW Police have released CCTV images of the man they want to speak to in relation to the robberies and he is believed to be in his 20s or early 30s and of average height and build.

All incidents happened between 11:00pm and 2:00am.

At the incident on December 14 in Strathfield, a pizza shop employee was punched in the chest by a man who then stole cash and left.
