Daily anti-government protests will continue but will diminish in size as protesters face tougher legal action, according to Bangkok police.
Pol Maj Gen Piya Tavichai, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said on Wednesday that the Thalu Fah group was expected to stage another rally at Nang Leong intersection at 4pm and to try to march towards Government House.
The group had protested at the same place on Tuesday and tried to approach Government House.
The police had stopped them and arrested nine people for illegal assembly, causing unrest and violation to the disease control law, he said.
Police would also summons and fine an old woman who was among the protesters and had stripped in front of riot police on Tuesday, he said.
On Tuesday protesters went to Mit Maitree Road at Din Daeng intersection, where they set fire to property and threw fireworks at police and Molotov cocktails at eight police vehicles, according to Pol Maj Gen Priya. Police had identified 15-20 suspects, he said.
"From now on, protests will likely to occur at two places, at Nang Leong and Din Daeng intersections but the number of protesters will not be high. In coming days, legal action will be intensified," he said.
Since July, police had arrested 633 protesters for breaking the law, he said.
