Huge blaze wakes people at 4am as police cordon off bus stop

A police cordon is in place and a probe underway after a bus shelter was gutted by fire.

Residents said fire crews and police turned up at the scene around 4am today.

Shocking footage from the ECHO's Colin Lane shows the remains of the bus shelter in Page Moss.

The images show the structure in Terminus Road, off Liverpool Road has been reduced to a charred shell save for small fragments of its fire-melted windows.

At this stage it is not known if the fire is being treated as arson.

The ECHO has asked both Merseyside Police and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service for official word.

Police tape remained stretched around the bus stop used by people waiting to get to several Liverpool destinations including Broadgreen, Old Swan and Edge Lane.

Acccording to Merseytravel's website it is a pick-up point for the Page Moss - Kirkby Industrial Estate Circular, 898 bus service.

No travel disruption has been reported as a result of the blaze.
