Police confirm escaped prisoner still at large more than 24 hours since absconding from Dunfermline cells

A man who escaped from a Dunfermline prison cell more than 24 hours ago remains at large.

The 33-year-old absconded from a cell at the town’s police station while in custody at around 9.10am yesterday morning.

Police Scotland have not yet released details about why the prisoner was being held.

Officers in the Fife area have been on an extensive manhunt for the prisoner since the news of his escape.

It still remains unclear why the man was being held at the police station.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said yesterday: “Police in Fife are carrying out search activity in the Dunfermline area after a 33-year-old man escaped from GeoAmey staff and made off from Dunfermline Police Station at around 9.10am on Monday, August 19.

"Inquiries to trace this male are ongoing."
