Police conduct 'proactive drug searches' in Cathedral Quarter

Castle Neighbourhood Policing Team in North Belfast conducted a "proactive drugs search" last night in the Cathedral Quarter, seizing a quantity of Class A controlled drugs with an estimated street value of £1,500. The Police Service of Northern Ireland have stated one of their priorities is taking drugs off the streets and this represents a considerable success in the force's fight against illegal substances.

Class A drugs are considered to be the most harmful. This category includes heroin, methadone, cocaine (including crack cocaine), ecstasy, magic mushrooms and "crystal meth". An offence involving a Class A substance carries the harshest penalties.

If you are found with a Class A drug and have a history of drug offences, you will be prosecuted. The maximum sentence for possession is up to seven years in prison or an unlimited fine (or both) for a Class A drug.
