Police close Queensferry Crossing both ways as cops race to scene amid 'concern for person'

A 'police incident' has closed the Queensferry Crossing to drivers tonight.

The major bridge spanning the Firth of Forth has been shut in both directions at 5.30pm, according to Traffic Scotland.

A tweet from the body said this is due to a 'police incident'.

An earlier tweet, sent around five minutes before, advised motorists that the road was blocked northbound due to an incident.

It is unclear at this time the nature of the incident.

Traffic Scotland has advised using the Kincardine Bridge while the incident is ongoing and the Queensferry Crossing is closed.

The tweets read: "17:25

The update read: "17:30

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 5:15pm, police received a concern for person call on the Queensferry Crossing.

"Emergency services are in attendance. The southbound carriageway is closed from the Fife direction towards Edinburgh. "
