Police called after rush hour crash involving cyclist and car in Wigan

Police were scrambled to a main road in Wigan after a rush hour crash involving a cyclist and a car.

Officers were called to Bridge Street in Golborne just after 5pm.

It is unclear whether any injuries were sustained in the incident.

The M.E.N. has contacted the North West Ambulance Service.

The road was closed for more than two hours as police responded at the scene.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area.

In a statement released earlier this evening, a GMP spokesperson said: "Police were called around 5.10pm to Bridge Street, Golborne to a report of a collision involving a cyclist and a car.

"Emergency services are currently in attendance."

The GMP Leigh, Atherton and Hindley account said in a tweet: "Bridge Street, Golborne between School Street and Tanners Lane is currently closed due to a road traffic collision. Please find an alternative route to avoid congestion."
