Police handed out more than 1200 speeding tickets and pressed 79 drink-driving charges across northern NSW over the June long-weekend.
Officers across the NSW Police Northern Region - which stretches from the Hawkesbury River to the Queensland border - conducted 17,287 breath-tests and issued 26 infringements for mobile phone use.
In one noteworthy case during the crackdown, police in the Taree suburb of Cundletown fined a 33-year-old man and gave him a defect notice after he was found with two children unrestrained in a Honda CRV - which was not roadworthy.
Police said the children, aged 12 and 3, were found unrestrained in the back seat of the car when it was stopped on Princes Street about 8am on Sunday.
Police said all four tyres on the vehicle were worn - one of them had allegedly split and had wire protruding.
Twenty-nine people were injured in 64 major crashes that were reported to police during the double-demerit period. Six people died on roads across NSW during the long-weekend.
