Police arrest 20-year-old in London on suspicion of plotting terrorist acts

A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of plotting terrorist acts, Scotland Yard said. 

Armed police led an operation that resulted in the suspect being arrested in northwest London at around 6.30pm on 2 August. .

Firearm and counter-terrorism officers carried out a pre-planned operation to conduct the arrest. No-one was injured.

The man is currently being held on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts, contrary to section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.

He is in custody at a south London police station, police said.

A statement from the Metropolitan Police said: “Detectives from the Met Police Counter Terrorism Command, assisted by the Met Police Firearms Command carried out a pre-planned operation which resulted in a 20-year-old man from north west London being arrested on suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts, contrary to section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.

“He was detained by officers from the Firearms Command, no one was injured.”
