Police and fire service investigating after blaze involving two vehicles in Ashton

Police have launched a joint investigation with the fire service after a blaze involving two cars in Tameside.

Turner Lane in Ashton-under-Lyne was cordoned off throughout most of the day on Sunday following the fire.

Officers were first called to a premises on the road at about 2pm today (Sunday), a GMP spokeswoman said.

On arrival, they found firefighters tackling 'two vehicle fires'.

An Electricity North West vehicle was pictured along with police vans at the scene.

No one was injured and no arrests have been made, the police spokeswoman said.

A joint investigation will be carried out to establish the cause of the fire and enquiries are ongoing.

In the full statement, police said: "Shortly before 2pm on Sunday 18 October 2020, police were called to reports of a fire at a premises on Turner Lane in Ashton.

"On arrival, GMFRS officers were tackling two vehicle fires.

"A joint investigation will be carried out to establish the cause of the fire and enquiries are ongoing.

"No-one was injured and no arrests have currently been made."
