Polbeth women get head shaved for charity during crisis

Two friends have had their heads shaved to help raise money for people in their community struggling because of coronavirus.

Lindsay Kinsman and Sarah Thomson, who live near each other in Polbeth, decided to shave their heads to raise funds for the Covid-19 response fund at Polbeth Community Hub.

So far they have raised over £900 which will help volunteers deliver supplies and offer comfort to those in need during this crisis.

The charity is currently offering help in the community by providing food parcels and meals to those in need, as well as being on hand to offer support and contact via the phone to those in self isolation.

Lindsay will also donate her hair to the The Little Princess Trust, who make wigs for children with hair loss, once the outbreak has cleared.

Polbeth Community HUB SCIO was founded in December 2018 and is based in one of West Lothian’s most deprived areas.

It so far has over 180 members from the local community. The Hub was founded to ensure Polbeth had a community building to meet the needs of the local community, one which also supports the overall regeneration of the full village. The vision is to eradicate poverty in the village and to assist individuals in reaching their full potential.

Anne Marie Wardlaw, trustee of the charity, said: “The staff and trustees were blown away when we heard that Lindsay and Sarah were fundraising for us and we thank them for their bravery and kindness.

“All the funds raised will go to help those most in need and in social isolation.”

In the last two weeks the Hub has helped over 300 people with 140 food parcels and also helped support two local nursing homes, Ladywell Neighbourhood Network and The Five Sisters Zoo, with surplus food.

They are also raising funds through a Neighbourly page and would be grateful for any donation large or small to help the community.
