Pokémon Streamer Becomes First to Beat Super Kaizo IronMon Challenge After Over 8,500 Attempts

Pokémon games are no doubt made for children, so their mechanics are very easy for everyone. Some streamers finished several Nuzlocke challenges, but nothing comes close to the Super Kaizo IronMon, the hardest challenge.

Recently, a Pokémon streamer managed to finish the extremely hard challenge after thousands of frustrating attempts.

What Is Super Kaizo IronMon?

Super Kaizo IronMon is the most challenging Pokémon ever designed. It is the invention of Twitch streamer iateyourpie, who created it in 2024 as an evolution of the already tough IronMon format.

The underlying IronMon rules are unforgiving: random battles, permadeath, increased enemy level, and prohibitions on catching or fighting wild Pokémon. And then Ultimate IronMon takes it to the next level, capping players at six Pokémon total, trapping players in Gyms until victory, and permitting only a single dungeon attempt.

Kaizo IronMon adds on top of that: you can only switch one Pokémon out at a time, the most effective moves and items are prohibited, and wild Pokémon can't be eliminated whatsoever. The "lord of the challenges" takes all of that—and turns it up to eleven. It adds intelligent AI, fully staffed Gym Leader teams, complicated mid-run switching rules, and prohibits major areas in various versions of the games.

Reimi Becomes First Super Kaizo IronMon Champion

After more than a year of efforts from several hundred contenders, streamer Reimi at last accomplished the impossible. On his 8,502nd try, he completed the challenge in Pokémon FireRed.

Thanks to the randomizer, Reimi began the run with a decision between Krabby, Weedle, and Blissey and chose Blissey wisely. That cute-looking Pokémon kept the first half of the run going, but according to the rules, Reimi needed to switch things up mid-game. His new lead Pokémon? A Crobat named Heskey, who amusingly evolved from an Ivysaur.

Legendary Final Battle

According to IGN, the last battle was the stuff of legend. Heskey, at level 90, wielded Earthquake, Thunderbolt, Sludge, and Aerial Ace. The foe: Champion Blue.

One-shot KOs managed Blue's Camerupt, Parasect, and Quagsire, but then there was the monster: a level 86 Rayquaza. Poison, healing battles, and a last-ditch Full Restore save wore Rayquaza down. Blue's final Pokémon, a Poliwrath, was powerless.

Amazingly, Reimi is not resting on his current accomplishment. Writing this, he's already up and going, currently repeating the challenge with a level 39 Tentacruel named Squidward. Evidently, winning hasn't reduced the excitement.

Challenge Only the Brave Should Attempt

The Super Kaizo IronMon rules page states, "This is not meant for everyone." And that's no exaggeration. With only one person ever reaching the end, this remains the most brutal Pokémon challenge to date.
