Pokemon Go came and went, leaving havoc in its trail

The video game event of 2016 was undoubtedly Pokemon Go. Unveiled July 6, it gathered 45 million players worldwide in its first 12 days, players who stalked streets and fields alike to capture the digital creatures inside the game's real-world mapping interface. Active Pokemon Go players also were connected, with at least 110,000 distracted-driving-related incidents _ all within the first 10 days of the game's debut, according to the Journal of the American Medical Association. Also, typically humbling locations, such as Arlington National Cemetery, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, reported gamers who wandered inside while playing.

And that was far from the end of it.

Illinois: A Chicago man is robbed while playing Pokemon Go; a Bloomington man playing while driving is arrested for a suspended license; state Rep. Kelly Cassidy proposed legislation fining game developer Niantic when players walk into protected lands, such as the Loyola Dunes Restoration.

Indiana: A man on parole for child molestation is arrested while playing Pokemon Go with children.

Michigan: A wanted man is arrested after Pokemon Go leads him to the front doors of a police station.

Ohio: A man and a woman are arrested at the Toledo Zoo for jumping a fence alongside the tiger enclosures to continue playing.

Maryland: A man drives into a police car while playing.

New York: A man calls for help after getting lost in a forest while playing.

New Jersey: A man is stuck in a tree while playing.

California: Two men walk off a cliff while playing.

Texas: Teen is bitten by a venomous snake while playing on a dirt trail.

Oregon: A man, particularly determined to "catch 'em all," refuses medical treatment and keeps playing despite being stabbed while playing.

New Hampshire: A dead person is found while playing.

Wyoming: A body also is found while playing.
