Ultrafine dust was at unsafe levels in Bangkok and 47 provinces over the past 24 hours, as of Sunday afternoon, according to the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (Gistda).

Gistda reported that unsafe levels of PM2.5, ranged from 38.3 to 60.7 microgrammes per cubic metre (µg/m³) of air in Bangkok and 47 provinces over the past 24 hours, mostly in the Central Plains, the Northeast and the North. The government-set safe threshold for PM2.5 is 37.5µg/m³.

The highest level recorded was 60.7µg/m³ in Nong Khai in the Northeast. In Bangkok, the average PM2.5 level was 49.1µg/m³, with all 50 districts reporting unsafe air. Nong Khaem district recorded the capital’s highest level at 53.4µg/m³.

Meanwhile, several southern and northern provinces recorded good air quality, with PM2.5 levels between 20 and 24.9µg/m³. These included Phuket, Krabi, Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai and Phatthalung.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration said unsafe PM2.5 levels in Greater Bangkok were expected to continue until Tuesday. It advised people to wear face masks outdoors and urged those with health problems to stay indoors.
