Plymouth confirm Newcastle youngster Kell Watts given all clear from hospital after worrying injury

Newcastle United youngster Kell Watts was discharged from a Kent hospital on Sunday afternoon following a thorough medical assessment.

There was concern about the Magpies defender after he after suffered a nasty looking injury in Plymouth Argyle's final League One game of the season at Gillingham yesterday.

Watts needed oxygen in the opening seconds after a clash with Gillingham striker Vadaine Oliver left him stricken on the ground and requiring urgent medical attention from both clubs' medical staff.

The 21-year-old defender was responsive but kept still as a precaution not to disturb his neck. The Magpies' defender was then lifted on to a stretcher before being removed from the Priestfield Stadium pitch following a 12 minute delay.

Watts was transferred to a local hospital and Argyle confirmed in a statement that Watts was conscious and was 'being assessed' by medical professionals.

The Pilgrims have since confirmed he has been given the all-clear and he has been discharged from hospital.

Watts was making the 50th and final appearance of a successful loan spell with the League One outfit and he has been backed to make the step up to Championship level next season.

The central defender is under contract at Newcastle until the summer of 2023 and is highly rated by those within the club.

We will bring you more updates on Watts' condition, as and when we get it.
