PlayStation has delivered some fairly impressive State of Play announcements this year. Because of that, expectations were high for the September 2025 presentation. Here's what PlayStation had to say on its blog:
"Tune in live this Wednesday for more than 35 minutes of reveals and news from developers around the world. We’ll share new looks at anticipated third-party and indie titles, plus updates from some of our teams at PlayStation Studios – including an extended look at Saros, Housemarque’s mysterious new title arriving next year. Look forward to nearly five minutes of gameplay captured on PS5."
Sony did not disappoint with the extended look at Saros, which looks interesting, but I'll be tuning into that one for the story. The big reveal took up the backend of the State of Play with the first reveal of Marvel's Wolverine, a game we haven't heard much about since 2021.
PlayStation's September State of Play kicks off at 2 pm PT / 5 pm ET / 11 pm CEST. You can watch the show live on YouTube or Twitch. And naturally, we'll also be watching the show and updating you on all the big reveals.
How to watch
Extended look at Saros

The only game that we know for sure will show up during today's State of Play is Saros from Housemarque.
Sony announced that nearly five minutes of gameplay "captured on PS5" will be shown during the livestream.
The Returnal follow-up was teased during the February State of Play with a pretty fascinating trailer showing a man in a fantasy Groundhog Day scenario.
Don’t expect Wolverine

While Sony said we’d get updates on some of its PlayStation Studios teams, we’re likely not going to see much or anything about Insomniac’s upcoming Wolverine game.
Typically, Sony reserves AAA game announcements for its PlayStation Showcase events. In contrast, State of Play mostly focuses on a range of third-party, first-party, and indie titles. Again, we might get a minor update on Wolverine, but the big blowout won’t happen during today’s show.
TGS-related announcements
The annual Tokyo Game Show is currently underway, which is likely a reason Sony is holding a State of Play event today. Several companies have already held showcases, and it won’t be surprising if we see some of those games during State of Play.
The most notable announcement includes Yakuza 3 Kiwami, which was the big feature of RGG Studio’s presentation. Not only is this game a reimagined version of Yakuza 3, but it even includes an all-new spinoff game called Dark Ties, which focuses on Yakuza 3’s antagonist.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties drops on Feb. 12, 2026 for Switch 2, PS4, PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
Capcom at TGS
Capcom also held a TGS presentation. We don’t know for sure if the games it focused on will get shown during State of Play, but they’ve all been confirmed for PS5 or are already available on the system. Because of that, we’ll likely see some Capcom games during State of Play.
We got to see new trailers for Resident Evil Requiem, Onimusha, Pragmata and Monster Hunter Stories 3. Monster Hunter Wilds title update 3 is a crossover between Square-Enix’s Final Fantasy XIV, while update 4 will introduce new monsters and content. There was also an extended gameplay trailer for C. Viper in Street Fighter 6.
It’s unclear if Capcom will reveal anything else during State of Play, but we’ll let you know if the company does!
Annapurna Interactive announcements
Annapurna Interactive, the same folks who brought us Stray and The Outer Wilds, held a showcase to coincide with TGS. During the show, the company revealed three new games that are all releasing on PS5.
Demi and the Fractured Dream is a 3D action-adventure game similar to Breath of the Wild, People of Note is a turn-based “musical,” while D-topia is a cozy puzzle adventure title.
These games might not set the world on fire, but they show the studio’s diverse range. All three games have a tentative “2026” release across multiple platforms, including PS5.
Possible Physint update?
Yesterday (September 23), Hideo Kojima discussed his upcoming PlayStation game, Physint. While the famed game director didn't reveal much beyond a new poster and some casting news, it makes us wonder if we'll get more news during State of Play.
Since Kojima Productions is still busy working on the Xbox-exclusive OD, Physint is still effectively in the planning stages. The game will also run on same engine as OD and Death Stranding, but given how it's so far out, said engine will be more powerful in the future.
Right now, three actors have been confirmed to be lending their talents to the game. This includes Charlee Fraser (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga), Don Lee (Eternals), and Hinami Hamabe (Godzilla: Minus One).
Check out the video above from last year's State of Play for more info on Physint.
The Adventures of Elliot TGS trailer
Square-Enix revealed a new trailer for The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales for Tokyo Game Show. This is another title we might see more of during State of Play.
From the creators of Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default, this HD-2D JRPG is certainly in the same vein as those works. The sprite-based characters and 3D backgrounds look phenomenal, and the action-based combat seems pretty thrilling. The latter is especially noteworthy since Octopath and Bravely were both turn-based.
The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales will arrive sometime in 2026. However, you can play a demo of it right now on Nintendo Switch 2.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles
Square-Enix is showing off several games during Tokyo Game Show, including the new Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles. Given this game's prestige, it'll be surprising if we don't see it during State of Play.
Final Fantasy Tactics was originally released in 1998 for the PlayStation. While it has since become the most popular Final Fantasy spin-off, the game was initially overshadowed by the industry-changing Final Fantasy VII, which was released the year before.
The Ivalice Chronicles is both a remake and a remaster since it features updated graphics for modern consoles while retaining the old game's art style. Easier difficulty settings and a fully-voiced story should make this more enticing for newer audiences.
15 minutes till show time!

We're almost there, folks! Are you excited? We certainly are! That said, we're also keeping expectations in check, since State of Plays aren't usually blow outs. But hey, you never never!
Marvel Tokon updates at State of Play?

If you're a fighting game fan, then you're likely excited for the PlayStation exclusive, Marvel Tokon. Sony previously said we'd get more during TGS, so it's possible we'll also see something during State of Play.
Developed by Arc System Works and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, Marvel Tokon is a 4v4 fighting game featuring some of Marvel's greatest superheroes. While you might think Tokon plays similarly to Marvel vs. Capcom, it's actually more akin to Arc System Works games like Guilty Gear Strive and Dragon Ball FighterZ. Based on our hands-on time with the game, we think it'll be a winner.
State of Play starts now
Alright, here we go, the countdown is done and we're off.
If you want to follow along with us, check out the livestream video above.
Saros Gameplay look

Sony promised that we would get a look at gameplay from Housemarque's upcoming sci-fi game, Saros. And the State of Play is kicking off with just that.
So far, it's third-person with multiple weapons and abilities. Plus, places to learn more about the world.
Saros launch date

Saros is launching on March 20, 2026. Just in time for my birthday, I know what I'll be doing that weekend.
A brief look at ZA/UM's next game

Despite the ongoing controversy, the studio behind Disco Elysium has a new game, that looks lot like that title in Zero Parades for Dead Spies.
If you want to a good breakdown of the ZAUM story, I recommend the two People Make Games documentaries.
Flight Simulator 2024

The long-running Microsoft Flight Simulator launches on PS5 on December 8, 2025.
Plus, VR support for PSVR 2 is being developed.
Battlefield story trailer

We know you're not playing Battlefield games for the story, but why not see what the single player campaign for Battlefield 6 has to say.
It looks suitably globe trotting with loads of destructive environments and soldiers yelling at each other.
Battlefield 6 launches on October 10.
Deus Ex Remastered

Apparently, Eidos is working on a remake of the original Deus Ex with some modern tweaks and slight graphical updates.
It launches on Feb 5, 2026.
Halloween: The Game

Take on the role of Michael Myers or a civilian trying to save townsfolk. Myers has supernatural-esque powers like shape jump.
As a civilian you try to lead townsfolk to safety.
Launches September 8, 2026.
Eleventh Hour Games

The dungeon crawler Last Epoch is coming to PS5.
It will come with a new expansion dubbed Orobyss that will launch at the same time.
The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin

The Seven Deadly Sins: Origins is coming Jan 28, 2026 and looks like a single-player MMO?
It's described as an open-world anime RPG.
Megaman coming to Sonic racing

Megaman and Protoman are coming to Sonic Crosswords later this year.
Nioh 3

With a suitably soap opera trailer, the next Nioh game is coming next year. The last one came out in 2020, so it should be a nice update after six years.
Nioh 3 is coming on February 6, 2026.
Dynasty Warriors 3 remastered

A remastered version of Dynasty Warriors 3 launchs in March of 2026. It mostly looks graphical.
Another look at Codevein 2

We've seen a few times this year at various shows like Gamescom, but today's trailer is the closest look at the gameplay that we've seen. Previous trailer focused mostly on story beats with brief glimpses of gameplay.
The game looks more fluid than the previous Codevein.
The game launches on January 30, 2026.
Final Fantasy Tactics

Final Fantasy Tactics launches next week, and yes, I've played it multiple times since it launched, and yes, I pre-ordered that baby almost immediately. It may be the only game I've bought multiple times.
If you haven't played it or want to play it again. FFT launches on September 30.
Let It Die! Inferno

Let it Die the sequel is described as an extraction game which are usually shooters where you lose all your gear and have to go on regen runs. This one looks more third-person action RPG.
It's a PvPvPvE the devs said in the presentation.
Let it Die comes out in December of this year.
Chronoscript - The Endless End

This game looks both very interesting and way too visually chaotic to see what's happening on screen.
I'm very curious about it. It's a 2D action-adventure where you play an editor trapped in a manuscript.
It launches in 2026.
Crimson Desert

At first I thought this would be a viking adventure with some fantasy elements like goblins and then it got weird. Dragons, flying machines, more.
I shouldn't be surprised by the developers of Black Desert though.
It's coming March of 2026.
PlayStation Speakers?

Sony just announced a set of portable speakers that can connect to your PC, Mac, PS5 or PS Portal in white or black.
The Pulse Elevate wireless speakers are coming out in 2026.
PS Plus Games

Alan Wake 2, Cocoon and Goat Simulator 3 will be the monthly free games as part of PS Plus.
Additionally, Last of Us 2 is coming to the Plus catalog. Tekken 3 and Tomb Raider will also come to the service this year.
Gran Turismo

For those who love racing, Gran Turismo 7 Spec III is getting a major new release with more maps, cars and features. This is coming December 2025.
God of War PS5 controller

A new Kratos-themed PS5 DualSense controller is coming out. The stream didn't say when it was coming though.
Hey, look at that, Wolverine

Insomniac's follow up to Spider-Man the much-anticipated Wolverine got an exciting new trailer with what sounds like the VO behind Arthur Morgan playing Logan.
It's launching in the Fall of 2026.
If it's half as good as Spider-Man I'm excited. It looks goreiusly violent.
Insomniac discusses Wolverine

A few Insomniac Games dev walked us through Wolverine.
They introduced the voice actor playing Wolverine, Liam McIntyre. Video game fans will know him as JD Fenix in Gears of War 4 and 5.
He also plays Taron Malicos in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
Outside of video games, he was Spartacus in Spartacus, the Weather Wizard in The Flash and Captain Boomerang in several DC animated movies.
Wolverine is already on my wishlist

Insomniac promises more to come in Spring of 2026. Looking forward to it.
That looks to be everything.

A brief recap of the trailers shown today and that's it for State of Play September 2025.
