PlayStation Plus July monthly games announced

Sony has announced the list of games coming to PlayStation Plus in July and it includes two big hitters.

PlayStation Plus’s monthly games will switch over on July 4, and we’re getting three titles next month. All three are playable on both PS4 and PS5 consoles.

These are Alan Wake Remastered, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Endling – Extinction is Forever. Here’s what they are like.

PlayStation Plus July games

Alan Wake Remastered

Alan Wake Remastered is a 2021 refresh of a 2010 game. It’s a horror-themed action adventure. You play Alan Wake, an author investigating his wife’s disappearance.

You find yourself in a Stephen King-style universe, in which you use a torch to keep the nasties in the dark at bay. It’s an atmospheric title we found moderately chilling rather than outright terrifying. Give it a go.

Alan Wake Remastered was made by Remedy, the folks behind Control and the Max Payne series. This one is rated 79% on Metacritic. Not bad.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

This game should not need too much of an introduction. It’s a Call of Duty title, and is therefore a military shooter, just like the other entries in this 20-year-old series.

Cold War is the release from 2020, and is set in the early 1980s. The single-player campaign features 16 missions, some with events inspired by real-life scenarios, set in places including East Berlin, Vietnam and Turkey.

Call of Duty’s multiplayer component is included too, and its player base will no doubt get a shot in the arm from its inclusion in PlayStation Plus’s July games. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War sits at 76% on Metacritic

Endling – Extinction

Finally, Endling – Extinction is the game you are least likely to have come across before. And it is the most highly rated of the three, according to its 82% Metacritic score.

Endling – Extinction is a stylish 2D adventure platformer. You play as a fox looking to protect her cubs in a dangerous world, and keep them fed.

This one looks cute, but it is a heart-rending look at what the future may have in store for the planet. However, it’s over and done in about four hours so is the one to pick if you like to finish games and don’t have a whole heap of time to play them.

As ever, the announcement of these games is also your reminder to pick up this month’s titles before they disappear. PlayStation Plus’s games for June are Jurassic World Evolution 2, Trek to Yomi and NBA2K23.

How PlayStation Plus works

PlayStation Plus’s monthly games are available to subscribers of all three tiers of the service, Essential, Extra and Premium.

What’s the difference? With PlayStation Plus Extra you get access to Sony’s large catalogue of PS4 and PS5 games, which can be played as much as you like.

PlayStation Plus Premium unlocks older games from the PS3, PS2 and PS1 eras, alongside game trials.
