Players react to Ravens releasing S Eric Weddle

The Baltimore Ravens reportedly released safety Eric Weddle on Tuesday, putting a sudden end to the veteran safety’s three-season run with the Ravens.

The move came as a surprise to many, including Weddle’s own teammates and other players around the league. In the immediate aftermath of his release, many players took to Twitter to express both their disbelief and also support for the 12-year NFL veteran.

Baltimore cornerback Tavon Young, who Weddle once called “one of our best cover guys and one of our best football players,” was among those who paid tribute to him.

Another member of the secondary, Ravens defensive back Anthony Levine Sr., also joined in.

Though he only spent a season with Weddle, Baltimore quarterback Robert Griffin III had praise for him too.

So did rookie wide receiver Jordan Lasley.

Defensive end Chris Wormley thanked “Uncle Weddle.”

Safety Tony Jefferson was particularly sad to see Weddle go, and said that his “best friend” will end up in the Hall of Fame one day.
