Play on Shiva, Sati draws huge applause

LUCKNOW: The mythological tale of Lord Shiva and Goddess Sati staged in the form of a dance and play by kids and teenagers of Meesha's Theatre group took the audience to a journey filled with love, emotions and devotion at Kalamandapam auditorium here on Saturday.

The performances supported aptly by light, sound and special effects kept the audience engaged throughout the play and ended with huge applause.

The play narrated the story of how Sati falls in love with Shiva and marries him against the wishes of his father king Daksha. Later, when Daksha organises a mahayajna, he doesn’t invite Shiva and Sati. Though uninvited, Sati attends the event despite disapproval from her husband. However, at her father's house when Sati hears negative statements about Shiva, she ends her life by jumping in the fire set for mahayajna.

After the play, Chhavi Shastri Sharma (38), parent of one of the artistes, told TOI “Kids worked really hard for the show. I helped my son memorise dialogues and rehearse for hours."

Harsh Keshri (39), who accompanied her eight-year-old daughter to watch the play, said, "My daughter was so inspired after seeing the children perform that she asked me to get her enrolled in the theatre school.”
